Laveaus' Haunted tomb your ghost

Marie Laveau is
probably the most famous name
in New Orleans and Voodoo history.
She is famous for her spells,
and the spread of Voodoo throughout
Louisiana. Marie Laveau is fondly
remembered, and her memory invoked,
especially when people discuss
love spells. Marie, and her
daughter of the same name, were
the equivalent of high priestesses
in the practice of Voodoo in
the 19th and early 20th centuries
in New Orleans.
Traditionally,
one asks Marie Laveau for a
favor. In some traditions, you
should knock three times on
her crypt before asking her
help.
After the favor
is granted, return to her crypt
and--according to folklore (but
against the law)--mark three
X's on the wall, with chalk
or a chip from a brick. You
may also choose to leave her
a gift of money (coins only),
alcoholic beverages, flowers,
and original hand made Monkey
and Cock statues from her secret
cult other Voodoo items that
would please her.
Here are a few
of our original Ghost photos
at the most famous grave of
Marie Laveau.
"Cities
of the Dead"
The earliest cemeteries
were underground burials, but
there were problems with the
coffins bursting up through
the ground and floating away
in times of heavy rains and
floods. Because of New Orleans'
unusually high water table burial
underground was not practical.
They began using
above ground crypts for burial.
Many of these seem to be only
big enough for two coffins,
yet there may be half a dozen
or more names on the memorial
stone. How this is accomplished
is that after a year and a day,
the crypt may be opened and
the old coffin and body broken
up.
The remains are
then stored in a hollow area
under the lower crypt. There
is little left after a year,
because of the extreme heat,
the crypts virtually become
little ovens, nearly cremating
the remains. So is the fate
of Marie Laveau and her body.
The Voodoo Queen
still lives on today in New
Orleans. If only in legend.
Her grave is visited by the
faithful and the curious year
round. Many come to her tomb
and place small offerings there.
Like beans, food or Monkey and
Cock statues and various real
Voodoo items. Many make chalk
marks on the face of her stone
tomb, in the sign of three x's
or a cross.
Still many others believe that
Marie's spirit rises on St.
John's EVE, June 23rd, and holds
court over a spectacular Voodoo
Ritual held on Bayou st. John
each year by Voodoo high Priestess
Sallie Ann Glassman officiates
and baptizes the faithful into
the religion each year.
Needless to say,
that there is debate as to whether
an actual ghost of the VOODOO
QUEEN exists. But of Marie Laveau,
one thing is absolutely certain--of
all the practitioners of the
Voodoo faith, no one in New
Orleans was ever more renowned
or more influential or more
respected. or more powerful
than Marie Laveau.
